We believe that a custom fishing rod should be just that, Custom. Each and every one of our rods is unique. While we use some of the same components on many of our rods, we strive to make each rod different from all others. We use several techniques and processes to achieve this, including marbling, different styles and colors of thread wraps, multiple thread colors on guide wraps, our own designed and turned rod grips, and uniquely colored reel seats. You can be assured that when you buy a Smoothbore Enterprises rod, it will be your rod, no one else will ever have one exactly like it. We can personalize many or our rods, especially those with our custom hardwood grips. Note that any form of personalization voids any and all returns other than those for defective products or workmanship.
Recently, owner Steve Sautter was certified as an Approved Rod Builder for Gary Loomis’ North Fork Composites rods, products, and accessories. NFC rods are some of the strongest, most sensitive, and modern rods available. We are rapidly transitioning almost exclusively to building all our long rods with NFC blanks. Soon, we will have a page dedicated to our NFC inventory. We will have detailed descriptions and photos of every rod. Our first offerings will be some of the finest fly rods you can buy anywhere at any price. Stay tuned. NFC rod blanks are manufactured in Woodland, WA. We try to source components made in the U.S,A. For instance, on all of our fly rods we use Snake Brand Guides manufactured in Battle Ground, WA, We also try to source reel seats made in the U.S. Many of our grips are from NFC and of course our own very special and unique grips are made here in Townsend, Montana.

A large part of our business is our Ice Rod sales. We use V-line and MHX ice blanks, and soon we will add NFC blanks to our ice rod selection.
The V-line Gnarly Noodle is our most popular ice rod and we have a large selection available now. Just go to the SHOP page where you can click on any offering and you will get a detailed description of that rod. You can also select the rod for purchase. A note on Shipping. In the final days of 2024 we were notified of shipping rate increases. Orders between $0.00 and $ 149.00 will be shipped at a flat rate of $ 14.00 in the U.S. Orders of $ 150.00 and over will be shipped free in the U.S.; chose the “Free Shipping” option at checkout. Shipping to Canada is a flat rate of $ 30.00 USD. No charge for local pick up in the Townsend, Montana area. Insurance is included on all products.
Prices on all rods include the 10% Federal Excise Tax.
